The Centre for Gender Research organises open queer seminars for all interested and/or actively working with the concept of 'queer', through practice, theory or activism. 

All seminars during the spring will be held online, via Zoom; Mondays 16.15–18.00.

Death at the End of the Rainbow: Rethinking Queer Kinship, Rituals of Remembrance and the Finnish Culture of Death
Varpu Alasuutari, University of Turku

Varpu Alasuutari defended her PhD in gender studies at the University of Turku, Finland on June 5, 2020. In her dissertation, she has examined death and loss as parts of queer and trans lives in Finland from the 1980s to the 2010s. Her research interests include queer kinship studies, queer death studies and feminist affect theories.


Digitala förbindelser: Rum, riktning och queera orienteringar
Evelina Liliequist, Umeå Universitet

Evelina Liliequist disputerade i etnologi 24 april 2020 vid Umeå universitet. Sedan maj 2020 anställd som förste forskningsassistent på Humlab, Umeå universitet. Nuvarande forskningsprojekt kommer handla om hbtq-personers görande av familj och queert släktskap på Instagram med utgångspunkt i två tematiska hashtags.


Trans and Sex Change in Contemporary Iran:A Socio-legal Study of Gendered Policies and Practices
Zara Saeidzadeh, Örebro Universitet

Zara Saeidzadeh completed her doctoral degree in Gender Studies at Örebro University, Sweden on June 4, 2020. In her doctoral thesis, she examines the lives of trans people who undergo sex-change surgery in Iran from a socio-legal perspective. She now teaches and works as a researcher in Gender Studies at Örebro University. She is also a research associate at Simone de Beauvoir Institute, Concordia University, Canada.
