Enacting (in)fertilities through non-biomedical practices and treatments

My project focuses on people in Sweden who turn to non-biomedical practices and treatments in order to deal with infertility and enhance fertility.

Studies on (in)fertility in the global North have focused almost exclusively on biomedical technologies, with the consequence that actors who consciously opt for methods other than biomedical assisted reproductive technologies, are excluded from using them, or combine different therapeutic practices, have remained at the sidelines of scholarly attention.

Using ethnographic methods such as interviews and participant observation, I will examine what these non-biomedical practices (re)produce. I will also inquire into the ways in which (in)fertilities are made sense of and enacted through a variety of non-biomedical interventions and methods.
