Femme-on-Femme: Juana María Rodríguez and Ulrika Dahl on Queer Kin(k)ship, Fem(me)inist Sexual futures and other utopian longings
About the seminar: In this sisterly conversation Juana Maria Rodríguez and Ulrika Dahl will discuss a range of shared interests, including queer autoethnography as a mode of theorizing, kin(k)ship and butch/femme parenthood, queer sexual politics in an age of gender wars, fem(me)inist solidarities and queer of color critique, fem(me)inine ageing, intimacy in public, gestures and utterances in queer archives, queer geopolitics, the future of queer studies and our persistent utopian longings.
About the presenters:
Juana María Rodríguez is Professor of Ethnic Studies at University of California, Berkeley, and author of, among other publications, Queer Latinidad: Identity Practices, Discursive Spaces (NYU Press, 2003) and Sexual Futures, Queer Gestures, and Other Latina Longings (NYU Press 2014) and a co-editor of a special issue of TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly on "Trans Studies en las Americas" (2019). Her research interests include race and sexual politics, LGBTQ communities, Latino/a/x and Caribbean literatures and cultures, women of color feminisms, queer activism in the Americas, transgender studies and sex work. She is currently a Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin.
Ulrika Dahl is Professor of Gender Studies at Uppsala University, and author of among other publications Femmes of Power: Exploading Queer Femininities (with Del LaGrace Volcano, 2008) and Skamgrepp: Femme-inistiska essäer (2014). She was co-editor of lambda nordica - Nordic Journal of LGBTQ studies (2009-2020) and is currently Open Forum editor of European Journal of Women’s Studies. Her research interests include queer kinship and reproduction, autoethnography and creative writing, feminist politics in the Nordic region, critical race and whiteness studies and sexual politics. She is currently working on queer assisted reproduction across borders and on the conservative turn in Nordic gender and feminist politics.
