The Centre for Gender Research, Uppsala University has, in collaboration with Stockholm University and Södertörn University, been granted funding from the Swedish Research Council for the Graduate School "Gender humanities and digital cultures". The Centre for Gender Research are also a collaborator in the Graduate School "The Future of Democracy: Cultural Analyses of Illiberal Populism in Times of Crises" (Fudem), where the University of Gothenburg is the main applicant.
Graduate School on Gender, Humanities and Digital Cultures
The humanities are being transformed due to the digitalisation of culture, and the use of digital skills and methods in higher education. The purpose of this Graduate School is therefore to explore how gender matters in these digital cultural and academic contexts, and to teach digital methods and research skills fit for the labour market of the 21st century, while also strengthening gender humanities research.
–We are very happy to be able to start this Graduate School, as it is an increasingly important area in need of strengthening and development. Gender dimensions of digital cultures are relevant in many ways, from production to consumption, via cultural expression and genres, and digitality is also starting to play a greater part in methods and processes within research. This also means a reals boost for the humanities within gender studies, says Helena Wahlström Henriksson, Director at the Centre for Gender Research.
The three partner units, the Centre for Gender Research (Uppsala University), the Department of Ethnology, History of Religions and Gender Studies (Stockholm University), and The School of Culture and Education (Södertörn University) all have established interdisciplinary research mileux in gender studies and digital humanities. Each unit plan to admit PhD students in the area of "gender, humanities and digital cultures" that will come together via collaborative courses and events. The Graduate School is coordinated by the Centre for Gender Research, Uppsala University.
Graduate School on The Future of Democracy
The Centre for Gender Research are also participating in the Graduate School "The Future of Democracy: Cultural Analyses of Illiberal Populism in Times of Crises" (Fudem), which will be placed at the University of Gothenburg. The aim of this Graduate School is to explore crises, threats against democracy, and illiberal populist movements from the perspective of humanities.
