Sub-studies

Single parents in Swedish media: Representations of ”lone” parenthood 2010-2020 is funded by Riksbankens jubileumsfond 2020-2022.

The project investigates representations of single parents and their family lives, as they figure in different genres. The first sub-studies in the project explore how lone mothers and lone fathers are portrayed in daily newspapers. Future sub-studies will focus on film/television, as well as on life writing in biographically and autobiographically based novels and memoirs.

As we move forward with the project we will also be able to compare representations of lone parents across these genres of text, and see which kinds of lone parent lives feature in them, as well as whose perspective and whose voice is centered. Is it those of mothers? Fathers? Or (grown) children? Finally we also investigate definitions of lone parenthood in a separate sub-study.
